Return to Joy
We were created for joy. It is the root of every longing, and we spend the majority of our lives searching for it. Joy is both a command and a promise, but we’re often not very good at understanding it or finding it. Every one of us wants more of it, so how do we do it? Where do we get it? How do we sustain it?
Join us this spring as we study one of the most joy-filled books of the Bible, the letter to the Philippians, and together, let’s return to joy.

Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom-We Killed the King
Sermon Notes Conversation Starter
I wonder if Barabbas ever realized that just as he was physically freed from his captivity, Jesus is liberating a kingdom of people for himself. I wonder if Barabbas ever realized that what happened to him on that day is just a microcosm of what Jesus is doing for creation – setting it free and creating a new people for himself. We can be a part of this scandal of the kingdom. We can be a part of Jesus' kingdom and enter into this freedom that Jesus brings. Though we have asserted our own rule over His, and though we stand guilty before him, the good news and history’s greatest scandal is that because Jesus was condemned, we can go free.
From Series: "Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom:: Olathe"
How long have we been waiting for 2021? It feels like a decade. Here we are, finally in 2021, but not much seems different. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel, but waiting is hard. We might be tempted to lose heart. Lose heart in our calling to love our neighbor as ourselves. We might lose heart in God’s people as this has been a very divisive time in our lives in many ways. We might lose heart in God himself. Nothing tempts us to doubt God like hard times. We can often ask, “Is Jesus actually doing anything right now? If he is, why is it so difficult? What do we do about it?” Today Jesus begins that conversation through a parable to show us we must not lose hope in His coming kingdom.
