Return to Joy
We were created for joy. It is the root of every longing, and we spend the majority of our lives searching for it. Joy is both a command and a promise, but we’re often not very good at understanding it or finding it. Every one of us wants more of it, so how do we do it? Where do we get it? How do we sustain it?
Join us this spring as we study one of the most joy-filled books of the Bible, the letter to the Philippians, and together, let’s return to joy.

Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom-Bloody Prayer
Sermon Notes Conversation Starter Family Sermon Notes
We have talked about Jesus. We’ve watched him. We’ve watched others meet him. Love him. Hate him. We’ve learned from him. What he is like. What God is like. What his kingdom is like. We’ve seen him tangle with his enemies. Confront prejudices of his day. Redefine the good and wise life. It’s almost too much to summarize here again. We have seen Jesus in almost every conceivable situation, conversation, and conflict you can possibly imagine. But not like this. This story. This text. We’ve seen nothing like this. Not even close. Because regardless of what you ultimately believe about Jesus, you can’t read Luke’s gospel, this eyewitness testimony to his personality, and not see a man who is unflappable, brilliant, poised, always knew what to do and what to say. Never hurried. Never impatient. He is a towering figure and force of nature in every encounter, every story, but in the garden of Gethsemane we see a different side of Jesus.
From Series: "Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom:: Leawood"
How long have we been waiting for 2021? It feels like a decade. Here we are, finally in 2021, but not much seems different. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel, but waiting is hard. We might be tempted to lose heart. Lose heart in our calling to love our neighbor as ourselves. We might lose heart in God’s people as this has been a very divisive time in our lives in many ways. We might lose heart in God himself. Nothing tempts us to doubt God like hard times. We can often ask, “Is Jesus actually doing anything right now? If he is, why is it so difficult? What do we do about it?” Today Jesus begins that conversation through a parable to show us we must not lose hope in His coming kingdom.
