Return to Joy
We were created for joy. It is the root of every longing, and we spend the majority of our lives searching for it. Joy is both a command and a promise, but we’re often not very good at understanding it or finding it. Every one of us wants more of it, so how do we do it? Where do we get it? How do we sustain it?
Join us this spring as we study one of the most joy-filled books of the Bible, the letter to the Philippians, and together, let’s return to joy.

Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom-This Is His Throne: Crucifixion
I don’t know about you, but stories about innocent people being punished for something they did not do hits me in a very profound way. Unjust stories where evil, corruption and indifference convict an innocent person. I do not exaggerate when I say that the story you will hear today is the grossest miscarriage of justice you will every know. Jesus is put on trial in front of everyone and it plays out exactly as you would imagine, with one difference. He is blameless. God’s perfect son. Everyone knows he is innocent and has done nothing wrong, but no one does anything about it! Jesus knows he cannot win. So he stays silent and in his silence he confronts the powerful, condemns the world, and saves a sinner. He saved you and me.
From Series: "Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom:: Downtown"
How long have we been waiting for 2021? It feels like a decade. Here we are, finally in 2021, but not much seems different. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel, but waiting is hard. We might be tempted to lose heart. Lose heart in our calling to love our neighbor as ourselves. We might lose heart in God’s people as this has been a very divisive time in our lives in many ways. We might lose heart in God himself. Nothing tempts us to doubt God like hard times. We can often ask, “Is Jesus actually doing anything right now? If he is, why is it so difficult? What do we do about it?” Today Jesus begins that conversation through a parable to show us we must not lose hope in His coming kingdom.
