Return to Joy
We were created for joy. It is the root of every longing, and we spend the majority of our lives searching for it. Joy is both a command and a promise, but we’re often not very good at understanding it or finding it. Every one of us wants more of it, so how do we do it? Where do we get it? How do we sustain it?
Join us this spring as we study one of the most joy-filled books of the Bible, the letter to the Philippians, and together, let’s return to joy.

Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom-We Killed the King
In our passage in Luke this morning, there is a miscarriage of justice. A story filled with corruption, false accusations, evil, and indifference on the part of bureaucratic government. It’s a tale of two courtrooms. Two different trials. Two different authorities. One is filled with Jewish religious leaders, and the other is bureaucratic, holding the weight and power of Roman rule. One room pronounces Jesus as a blasphemer. The other says he is an insane person not worth their time. The question of Jesus’ identity is answered through Jesus' responses in the midst of all the courtroom drama. The story plays out as you might expect in most courtroom dramas, but with one pretty major difference. As we go through it together, take note of how Jesus responds.
From Series: "Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom:: Downtown"
How long have we been waiting for 2021? It feels like a decade. Here we are, finally in 2021, but not much seems different. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel, but waiting is hard. We might be tempted to lose heart. Lose heart in our calling to love our neighbor as ourselves. We might lose heart in God’s people as this has been a very divisive time in our lives in many ways. We might lose heart in God himself. Nothing tempts us to doubt God like hard times. We can often ask, “Is Jesus actually doing anything right now? If he is, why is it so difficult? What do we do about it?” Today Jesus begins that conversation through a parable to show us we must not lose hope in His coming kingdom.
