Return to Joy
We were created for joy. It is the root of every longing, and we spend the majority of our lives searching for it. Joy is both a command and a promise, but we’re often not very good at understanding it or finding it. Every one of us wants more of it, so how do we do it? Where do we get it? How do we sustain it?
Join us this spring as we study one of the most joy-filled books of the Bible, the letter to the Philippians, and together, let’s return to joy.

Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom-We Killed the King
Sermon Notes Conversation Starter
As we continue on in our series called Rediscovering Jesus’ Kingdom, we’re going to talk about failure. We’re going to be looking at the story of someone from Jesus’ inner circle who failed. Today we are going to talk about Peter’s denial of Jesus. But before we even get there, I want to ask a bigger picture question: why is this story even in the Bible? The passage tells us that as disciples, we will fail. And Jesus already knows it. Like Peter, we are in the midst of a spiritual war that we don’t fully understand, and Satan wants to mess us up. Let’s be humble, not overconfident in ourselves. Let’s join with Jesus in praying that we will not fail and rely on God’s power to sustain us through temptation. Let us be willing to suffer with our suffering king. And when you fail, run to the empty tomb. Run to Jesus. His love is greater than your failure.
From Series: "Rediscovering Jesus' Kingdom:: Brookside"
How long have we been waiting for 2021? It feels like a decade. Here we are, finally in 2021, but not much seems different. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel, but waiting is hard. We might be tempted to lose heart. Lose heart in our calling to love our neighbor as ourselves. We might lose heart in God’s people as this has been a very divisive time in our lives in many ways. We might lose heart in God himself. Nothing tempts us to doubt God like hard times. We can often ask, “Is Jesus actually doing anything right now? If he is, why is it so difficult? What do we do about it?” Today Jesus begins that conversation through a parable to show us we must not lose hope in His coming kingdom.
