Parables: The Pharisee and the Tax Collector - 12
Sermon Notes Connect Card Family Sermon Notes
This parable focuses on how we approach God and his mercy through prayer. Do we, like the Pharisee, speak only of ourselves, showing contempt to others and ignore the opportunity for forgiveness? Or do we, like the Tax Collector, recognize our brokenness and approach God through humility focused on receiving forgiveness and mercy.
From Series: "Parables: from the Book of Luke - Leawood Campus"
Jesus’s teachings weren’t always straightforward. In fact, even as someone widely known as the greatest teacher and communicator the world has ever seen, Jesus often spoke in ways that purposefully confounded crowds and left some people walking away confused. Jesus spoke in riddles and stories, and in these teachings, there was always a twist. A reversal. In other words, something that makes us want to lean in desiring to know more, or to get up and walk away. Most of all, Jesus’ parables are a window... a window into the upside-down, paradoxical kingdom of God. Join us this summer as we explore Jesus’ brilliant stories and as we seek out His kingdom revealed to us in their midst.
