Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent, a 40 day period of preparation and devotion leading up to Easter. For hundreds of years, Christians have gathered together on the Wednesday before the first Sunday of Lent to deal with their sin. In order to name it. To confess it. To mourn and cry over it. To plead with God for mercy and forgiveness, and to recognize that they are nothing without God.
The Ash Wednesday service is a quiet, contemplative gathering to reflect and examine the effects our sin has on our hearts, on our lives, and on the world around us. If Lent represents the long road of Jesus and His disciples to the cross, the grave, and ultimately, the joy of Easter morning, then Ash Wednesday is the first step.
Please join us for our Ash Wednesday service, Wednesday, February 26 at 7pm in the Leawood Campus Worship Center.
