The Brookside Campus is a thoughtful, engaging congregation situated in the heart of some of Kansas City’s most storied and historic neighborhoods. We are an intergenerational collection of individuals and families from different communities with diverse callings and distinct gifts. We celebrate God’s redeeming work, encouraging one another as we strive to be integral and influential apprentices of Jesus Christ.

what to expect

We’re excited you’re interested in Christ Community. We know contemplating a visit to a church for the first time can lead to questions. We hope the section below will help answer a few of the questions you might have about worshiping at Christ Community. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us.

What is the music like?

Our music is a blend of contemporary and traditional styles. We sing mostly hymnody, spirituals, and songs you hear on Christian radio, although we’ll occasionally sing an original song written by the band. You’ll usually see a piano, acoustic guitar, hammond organ, electric guitar, drums, bass, horns and several vocalists on the stage each week. We even have a beautiful pipe organ which we occasionally sing a traditional hymn with. Our screens have the lyrics to each song and we encourage our congregation to sing, worshiping our Lord. One of our favorite times is our fifth Sunday jazz service, where we celebrate by singing hymns in the New Orleans jazz style.

About the Services

While our style of worship is contemporary in nature, blending both old and new, our commitment as a worshiping community is to beautiful and thoughtful worship anchored in Bible-centered, relevant teaching. Each week, we invite all Christ followers regardless of church membership to come together to celebrate Communion.* Join us as we journey and worship together on Sundays at 9am and 10:45am.

Tell me about the teaching?

Our teaching is expositional in style, meaning our sermons are based on a passage of Scripture. We desire for our teaching to be faithful to the Bible, centered on the good news of the forgiveness of sins in Jesus, and relevant to life.

What should I wear?

There’s no dress code and we’re generally very casual. If you feel like wearing a suit, go ahead, and if you feel like wearing t-shirt and jeans, that’s great too. Just be yourself.

Community Groups are designed to be a place where people can engage with others from our church on a more personal level than what Sunday mornings can afford. Community Groups are small groups of people who meet in homes for the purpose of growing in the three relationships of the Christian life: our relationship with God, each other, and our city and world. Groups meet weekly during our fall, winter, and spring sessions.

A Caring Family

A Caring Family

Our mission at Christ Community is “to be a caring family of multiplying disciples influencing our community and world for Jesus Christ.” The core of our Family and Care Ministries is to design and offer ministries that magnify and emphasize the “caring family” part of our mission. We are working to establish the family as God intended it to be.

Family Enrichment and Education

We offer enrichment and education opportunities (classes, conferences, and retreats) in order to strengthen marriages and to help parents sharpen their parenting skills. For details about current opportunities visit our calendar or contact families@christcommunitykc.org for more information.

Counseling and Professional Assistance

Here at Christ Community we recognize that sometimes life and circumstance may require you to connect with a professional for help. Should you find yourself or someone you care about in need of professional help and you are uncertain where to turn, please contact one of our pastors and they can share with you ideas of counselors and professionals with whom you might connect.

Men of Brookside

Men of Brookside

Brookside’s Men’s Ministries provides men the opportunity to fellowship together, study Scripture, and pray with each other. The primary way this happens is with the Men of Brookside (we call it The MoB) study, which meets Fridays, 6:30-7:45am, in the Fireside Room. This is a weekly gathering to build friendships and discuss God’s Word over some early morning coffee. For information regarding the MoB, contact Ronnie Metsker at ronnie@ronniemetsker.com.

For more information about Men’s Ministries, please email us at PaulB@ChristCommunityKC.org, or call us at 913.685.1161.

Connecting, encouraging, equipping, & serving women

Connecting, encouraging, equipping, & serving women

The heart of Women’s Ministries is to welcome, encourage, connect, and serve women as we journey together.

Two women’s book studies will be meeting 3-4 times in April and May:

  • Scott Sauls’ book, Befriend, led by Kaely McKelway, will meet on a weeknight at Panera in Brookside
  • Jennie Allen’s book, Nothing to Prove, led by Kristen George, will meet on Saturday mornings at Kristen’s home in Westwood

For more information, and for general information regarding Women’s Ministries, please contact Paul Brandes at PaulB@christcommunitykc.org.

If you’re college-age, in your 20’s, or 30’s, you’re welcome to join the young adult community as we seek to build relationships with one another and be connected more deeply to the life of the church as a whole. We gather after corporate worship the second Sunday of every month to share a meal together. To stay up to date on Brookside Young Adult activities, check out our Facebook page. Contact Anthony Emerson with any questions.

Middle School and High School

Middle School and High School

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and learn more about who we are and what we are about. We aim to live out our church’s calling to be a caring family of multiplying disciples influencing our community and world for Jesus Christ. Student Ministries is the place to connect and grow for any and all students who are in 6th – 12th grade. Here, relationships begin and are deepened, and spiritual formation takes place. And we have a lot of fun while we’re at it! Visit our Brookside Student Ministries section to find out more about our program.

Children's Ministries

Children's Ministries

We value children at Christ Community and our Sunday morning worship gatherings are intentionally intergenerational, as people from all ages and stages of life worship God together as a community. We encourage families and children to worship together, but we also provide a time of playful formation for children. We provide age-appropriate programming for children ages 6 weeks through Kindergarten during our 9am service and we provide age-appropriate programming for Children ages 6 weeks through 5th Grade during our 10:45am service.

Parents may check in their children at the Children’s Ministries room before the service begins. For children participating in the worship service, Kid Connect activity sheets are available at the back of the worship center. These are designed to help children and families engage in God’s word and in the local church. If you have any questions, please contact Anna Lynn Rolf.

What is Razors Leadership Pathway?

What is Razors Leadership Pathway?

Razors Leadership Pathway is the place where men and women at Christ Community are “sharpened” (Proverbs 27:17) and refined as leaders so that they are razor-sharp, prepared to lead with integrity of heart and skillful hands (Psalm 78:70-72) in the local church and in their community and world.

Who is it for?

Razors Leadership Pathway is designed for anyone at Christ Community who desires to become a more integral and effective leader, both in the church and in our community and world. It is designed to train and equip leaders at Christ Community and is generally the basic prerequisite for anyone wishing to serve in a place of leadership at Christ Community. If you have any questions about whether this is the right pathway for you, please contact one of our staff to find out more, or visit our Razor’s Leadership Pathway website for details and registration information.
